Work while receiving unemployment benefit

Do you receive unemployment benefit and have the possibility of earning some extra money, but do not know whether this will jeopardise the awarding or payment of unemployment benefit?

Does the Social Security Agency examine other income while you receive unemployment benefit?

Text

No. During the payment of unemployment benefits, the Social Security Agency does not examine whether the beneficiary of unemployment benefits has other income, e.g. from gainful activities on the basis of an agreement. However, this has an impact on registration as a jobseeker with the labour office on which the receipt of unemployment benefits is dependent.

When will I lose my entitlement to receive benefits?

Text

Upon expiry of the support period (6 months) or delisting from the jobseekers’ register at the labour office (cancelled on the same date as deregistration).

Entitlement to benefits also ceases on the date of awarding an old age pension, an early old age pension or an invalidity pension due to a reduction in earning capacity by more than 70%.

Do I have to be registered with the labour office at all times while receiving the benefit?

Text

Yes. The Social Insurance Agency will only pay you the benefits for the entire support period (6 months) if you are registered in the Register of Job Seekers.

USEFUL TIP: Information on the conditions to be met for inclusion in the Register of Job Seekers at the labour office and what professional activities you may carry out while being registered may be obtained directly at the competent labour office or on the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family website www.upsvar.sk.
