Apply for export of benefits abroad

Do you want to seek work outside Slovakia, in the territory of other EU/EEA Member States, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, but don’t want to lose unemployment benefits? Find out what options you have when looking for a job abroad (in the territory of individual EU/EEA Member States, Switzerland and the United Kingdom).

Receiving benefits and looking for work abroad

Can I get unemployment benefits even if I am looking for work abroad?

Yes, it is possible. This is the ‘export of a benefit’ and if you follow the rules, you will retain your entitlement to unemployment benefits and the Social Insurance Agency will continue to pay it to you during your period abroad at the same amount as it was paid to you in Slovakia.

How can I cooperate with the labour office if I am not in the Slovak Republic?

If you go to seek employment in another EU Member State country as a beneficiary of unemployment benefits, the labour office will not delist you from the register, but you are not obliged to fulfil any obligations towards the labour office (active job search, providing proof of such, being available to the office within three working days). Contact the competent labour office for information on how to proceed.

Who is eligible / Conditions of eligibility

What conditions do I have to fulfil if I want to apply to export the benefits abroad?

Your registration at the labour office in the Register of Job Seekers must have lasted at least 4 weeks.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: In exceptional cases, the Social Insurance Agency branch may authorise a shortening of this period after considering the reasons on a case-by-case basis. It may allow for shortening, for example, in the case of accompanying a spouse working abroad, taking part in an educational course, in the case of requalification, language training, etc. However, these facts must be duly substantiated by supporting documents.

Arrangement process

1

Ask the labour office to issue the necessary notification

First, you ask the labour office to issue the form ‘Notification of the Date on which a Jobseeker Ceases To Be available to the Office for Labour, Social Affairs and Family due to Departure to Another EU Member State.

2

Submit the notification to a Social Insurance Agency branch

Then submit this form to the Social Insurance Agency branch, where they will issue you with a PD U2 form.

3

Register as a jobseeker in another EU country

With the PD U2 form, you will register as a jobseeker with the employment services of the Member State where you are seeking work.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: You must register in the other state within seven days after the date on which you ceased to be available to the labour office in the Slovak Republic.

Payment of the benefit

Who will pay me the benefit after registering abroad and for how long?

Your unemployment benefits will continue to be paid by the Social Insurance Agency, which allowed the export of unemployment benefits. Export is approved for 3 months. You can apply for an extension of the export before the expiry of the 3-month export, which will be for the branch to decide on individually. The benefits can be received for a maximum of 6 months.
