Are you planning to claim any social security benefits? In most cases, entitlement to benefits is conditional on the duration of insurance at the statutory length. As a SEP/SZČO, you are not automatically required to pay all types of insurance, but you may pay them by way of voluntary insurance to become entitled to benefits in the future.

Which types of insurance can I voluntarily register for?
If you are a SEP/SZČO with compulsory pension insurance and sickness insurance at the Social Insurance Agency, you can register:
- for voluntary pension insurance only; or
- for voluntary unemployment insurance only; or
- for a combination of voluntary pension insurance and voluntary unemployment insurance.
As a SEP/SZČO, you may also be voluntarily insured during a suspension of compulsory insurance due to nursing a close relative or nursing a child, and during the period in which you are entitled to parental benefits.
If you are a SEP /SZČO without compulsory insurance, you can register for:
- for voluntary pension insurance only; or
- a combination of voluntary pension insurance and voluntary sickness insurance; or
- a combination of all three types of voluntary insurance (pension, sickness and unemployment insurance).
How to register?
